Writing for The Federalist, Todd Bensman argues that the Biden Administration’s recent deal with Panama to stem the movement of migrants through that country is a politically motivated action. Bensman is a national security analyst for the Center for Immigration Studies.
Previously, he noted, the administration was pressuring Panama to make it easier for the migrants to pass though on their way to making illegal entry into the United States. The newly-elected president of Panama, Jose Mulino, campaigned against this traffic of migrants and promised action to stop it. In a sharp turnabout, which surprised many, the administration agreed to help Mulino accomplish his goal.
Bensman notes that the Biden presidential campaign is well aware that images of chaos on our border will alienate voters. He further observes that “The campaign wants controls in place to reduce anticipated desperate last-chance border rushes as Election Day approaches — immigrants will want to reach the American border before a possibly victorious Donald Trump slams the gates shut.”
Along with the accord with Panama, the administration, says Bensman, also made a deal with Mexico. Since then the Mexicans have employed their military and police to slow the surge of migrants toward our border. If Biden is reelected, Bensman predicts that the flood of illegal migration will resume.
