Yesterday, during a four-hour period along the border near Sunland Park, New Mexico, exactly one migrant illegally crossed the border from Mexico into the United States. That one illegal — a 23-year-old Mexican named Jovani — had scaled the border wall and attempted to escape in the darkness. Unfortunately for him, Jovani was met by no fewer than six Border Patrol agents, who took him into custody.
Disappointed in this development, his second illegal crossing, Jovani burst into tears and claimed, “I support Trump because he’s someone who seems like he doesn’t like those who commit crimes.”
True, but evidently Jovani doesn’t consider himself one of those people. He told reporters on the scene: “It’s frustrating because you’re coming here for a good reason. I’m a good guy, I’ve got no tattoos, followed the law, and haven’t done anything wrong to anybody.” He said that while displaying injuries to his hands suffered while unlawfully climbing over the border wall.
The Border Patrol informed the crestfallen Jovani that he would be returned to Mexico later that day.
Two years ago, agents in the area were apprehending about 2,500 illegal migrants every day. Now that number is less than 100. One agent said: “It’s a relief for our agents, they don’t feel overwhelmed.”
