White House officials announced the start of a nationwide campaign on Thursday to encourage and assist legal immigrants to become U.S. citizens, which could add millions of Democrat voters in time for the presidential election next year.
There are about 8.8 million legal resident aliens in the country eligible to become citizens. The Obama White House is well aware that about 60% of immigrants eligible to naturalize are Latino and about 20% are Asian, both groups that voted overwhelmingly for Obama.
The campaign will include TV ads and use ethnic advocacy groups that support amnesty for illegal aliens to find and assist immigrants in becoming citizens before the election.
