The Bulwark, a group of Never Trumpers formed in 2019 by Bill Kristol and others during Donald Trump’s first administration, has come out IN FAVOR of mass deportations of illegal Hispanic aliens this time around.
Jonathan Last, the editor of the group’s website, posted yesterday on the far-left “Bluesky” social media site a call to stop spending “capital trying to help people who are no longer a major part of [our] electoral coalition.”
That’s right. Observiing that 45% of Hispanics voted for Trump last month, Mr. Last has concluded that continued pandering to that bloc would be “madness.” He thereby confirmed what the rest of us knew all the time: open borders was always just a strategy to displace legacy American voters with voters friendly to Democrats. Now that Trump has essentially evened the score, Last thinks HIspanics should be rounded up and sent back.
In reporting Last’s demand, John Nolte of Breitbart News points out that Latinos should never have been viewed as automatlically pro-illegal. He cites the late Cesar Chavez, the California farm labor activist who “vehemently opposed illegal immigration” because of the harm it did to the California working class and to their power to negotate with growers.
As Nolte sums it up, The Bulwark’s idea is this: “In other words, Hey, we imported these brown people for the votes. They betrayed us. Ship ‘em all back.”
