Missouri Officials Seek Answers about TdA Release

A group of Congressmen and Senators from Missouri have sent a letter to Joe Biden demanding answers regarding reports that local law enforcement had been instructed to release two members of the Venezuelan Tren de Aragua (TdA) gang.

The letter relates that on October 25, 2024, law enforcement in Clinton County in northwest Missouri detained two Venezuelan illegals who were revealed to be members of TdA. Contacting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials, the Missouri officials were told to release the two because Venezuela refuses to accept deportees.

Both of the gang members were in the US illegally. One was awaiting a federal immigration court hearing, and the other had an order for removal and was subject to mandatory detention but had not been detained.

The letter reads, in part:

Despite the threat these individuals pose to the citizens of Missouri, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) personnel contacted local law enforcement personnel and advised that they release the individuals in question because Venezuela refused to accept them. [The administration] reportedly directed local law enforcement in Missouri to release a known member of [TdA] due to Venezuela’s refusal to cooperate on deportation cases.

The legislators asked Biden to provide “prompt and transparent responses” to their questions, including an explanation of why ICE advised that the TdA gang members be released.
