Stephen Miller, President-elect Trump’s leading advisor on immigration called on Republican House members to cut federal funding funding for “sanctuary” cities. These cities refuse to cooperate with federal immigration law enforcement to detain and deport illegal aliens. Miller made his proposal before the Republican Study Committee, the largest GOP caucus in the House.
One possibility for cuts would be Justice Department grants for law enforcement. In 2023, these grants to sanctuary jurisdictions totaled more than $1.56 billion.
Along with this plan for sanctuaries, the in-coming Trump Administration is reportedly aiming to reinstate the “Remain in Mexico” policy which discouraged bogus asylum claims by illegal aliens. Anther likely possibility is ending the Biden programs which allow illegal aliens to settle in the U.S. under the unlawful pretext of granting them parole.
