Migrants Keep Arriving from the South, the North, Everywhere

The Biden administration would have you believe that our southern border is secure. After all, thanks largely to a step-up of election-year border enforcement by Mexican officials, “only” 118,000 illegal migrants crossed in May between points of entry from Mexico. That’s the third-lowest number since Biden’s first full month in office in February 2021 and is less than half Biden’s record of 250,000 in December of 2023.

So things are looking up, right? Not really. Biden knows he’s in deep trouble everywhere, most notably regarding immigration, which surveys show is at the top of voters’ concerns for the first time ever. The assistance shown by Mexico’s leadership — widely believed to be in response to a secret agreement between the two countries — along with Biden’s newly announced policy that would actually will permit one million new arrivals every year plus at least 660,000 got-aways do nothing to stem the tide Biden opened as his first official act as president.

What’s more, the tide is now coming in from everywhere and from every direction. In May, US officials encountered a record 3,000 migrants coming across the increasingly busy Swanton Sector of the Canadian border. Those arrests brought the fiscal year’s total in that sector to more than 10,000, another record.

In addition, the Coast Guard reports that over the weekend it intercepted a total of 305 illegal migrants from the Bahamas and Haiti on rickety boats. The crew of Coast Guard Cutter Thetis took 196 people back to Haiti on Monday after intercepting two boats last Wednesday and Thursday. An additional 109 Bahamian migrants were intercepted by the Coast Guard and handed over to the Royal Bahamas Defense Force on Sunday.

Make no mistake. The illegals are continuing to come from all directions, and there are many, many more where they come from. A slight election-year pause in some areas means nothing.
