Mayor Adams: “Put 100K to Work”

As we have noted frequently, Mayor Eric Adams of NYC has been beset this year and last with way too many of what he pretends are a good thing: illegal migrants.

Now filled to the gills with them — something like 100,000 and counting — Adams’ city seems to have tried everything short of doling out one-way SpaceX tickets to Mars. Yesterday, Adams declared he has found yet another answer: give them all work permits. Because he’s sure they’re all just dying to work, and moreover it’s not only “un-American” to deny them that privilege, it’s downright “anti-American.”

What is more anti-American than not allowing someone to work? What is more anti-American than that? So what is wrong with them having the right to work? There’s no reason the national government is not staying true to the basic principle of the American experience to allow you to the right to work. It is unacceptable. It’s unacceptable that they cannot work.

In answer to his first question, maybe it’s more anti-American to force someone to work. You know, Mr. Mayor, like in slavery.

That’s not as farfetched as it might seem. Something very, very like slavery is occurring in the mayor’s hometown and indeed throughout the country. Back in April, the NY Times published a report titled “Alone and Exploited, Migrant Children Work Brutal Jobs Across the U.S.” The income that can be earned from the employment of underage workers is one of the driving forces in the human trafficking chain the Biden administation has become a part of. Now, Eric Adams, like Joe Biden, has joined with the cartels.

We’re not sure what percentage of Adams’ 100K are minor children; the statistics are elusive because they aren’t known. But we’re pretty sure it’s not zero. Not that the mayor even thought about that when he was ranting, but even so, it points up the fact that, no, providing the multitude immediate work permits (Does he expect this to be done by executive fiat? Probably. “Democrats” always prefer dictatorships.) and thus depriving 100,000 citizens of a chance at a job, is not the solution.

The solution, Mr. Mayor, is not to have let them in in the first place. In the second place, the solution is removal, as “anti-American” as that might sound.
