Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the illegal alien adopted by Democrats as the poster child of ICE injustice, is now back at his home in Maryland after a federal judge ordered his release from detention.
Abrego Garcia was saved from deportation to his El Salvador home country in 2019 by a federal judge who concluded that he would be in danger there from gangland foes. (He is widely reputed to be a gang member himself and is currently under indictment in Tennessee for human smuggling.) The Trump administration sent him to El Salvador in March nevertheless, whereupon he became a cause celebre amongst Democrat politicians. He was ultimately returned to the United States, but US officials continued to look for a country that would accept him.
A series of African countries were considered as possible destinations, along with Costa Rica, but Abrego Garcia had remained in detention at the Moshannon Valley Processing Center in Pennsylvania until his ordered release this week. For now, the “Maryland dad” remains in limbo while his Tennessee case proceeds and the Department of Homeland Security mulls its next move, vowing to somehow remove him from to somewhere else.
