Invasion by Sea in LaLa Land

In tawny Newport Beach, California, the other day, in broad daylight, a fancy fishing boat cruised into the harbor, docked, and ejected nearly two dozen illegal migrants who then simply disappeared into the city. It was all done matter-of-factly, in keeping with the routine nature that crimes acquire when they are widely ignored.

As with every place in California, Newport Beach is a sanctuary, where local police, sheriff’s departments, state police, etc., are forbidden to cooperate with federal immigration authorities — should any such show the slightest interest.

Patrolling the harbor at Newport Beach is a responsibility of the Orange County sheriff. Referring to the incident on X, Newport Beach Mayor Will O’Neill said:

I’m aware of a video showing a mass of people offloading from a boat in our Harbor. I’ve been in touch with the O.C. Sheriff’s Department who patrols our Harbor to find out how we can do better. Our nation’s border crisis is serious, lawless, and dangerous. The approaches taken by the administrations in D.C. and Sacramento have made it significantly worse. As it has been said, every city is now a border city. We must expect better from people in charge of enforcing our laws.

Just don’t hold your breath waiting for it, Mr. Mayor.
