The state of Indiana has agreed to house up to 1,200 ICE detainees in a prison near the Indianapolis Speedway. Dubbed the “Speedway Slammer,” the prison’s official name is the Miami Correctional Facility. Its location, about 120 miles from Chicago, has some in the Windy City area speculating that DHS may be planning to step up illegal migrant raids in Chicago, where many tens of thousands of illegals reside.
As usual when announcing DHS plans and actions, Secretary Kristi Noem emphasized that illegal migrants still have time to self-deport. Last week in announcing the new facility, she said:
If they self-deport and go home, they can come back legally. We will let them come back. If you wait and we bring you to this facility, you don’t ever get to come back to America. You don’t get the chance to come back and be an American again.
While between 500,000 and one million illegals of the 20 million-plus living here have self-deported, most seem still to be relying on street protests and legal maneuvering to enable them to cling to their illegal perches in America. More Speedway Slammers and Alligator Alcatrazes will surely be needed before this is all over.
