Immigration Provisions in Relief Bill

The coronavirus relief bill unveiled by House Democrats has provisions related to immigration. One is temporarily protecting illegal aliens from deportation who work in what are deemed “essential” jobs. This is when plenty of unemployed Americans are available to fill that employment. Another proposes to prevent cutoffs of funding to sanctuary cities, i.e., cities which refuse to cooperate with federal immigration law enforcement. Critics of this proposal wonder what it has to do with the coronavirus crisis.
