One of the preferred activities of illegal alien criminals is car theft. Between January and October of 2024, the last of the Joe Biden “golden years” of open borders, 421,791 cars were reported stolen in the United States. During the same period of 2025, the first year of Donald Trump’s second term, the number dropped to 324,003, a 22.3 percent decrease. This was largely the result of Trump’s focus on the arrest and removal of alien criminals. As examples, consider the following:
- In September, ICE issued a 12-count indictment, taking down a Michigan ring that was stealing cars then packing them into shipping containers for transport overseas. More than 350 stolen vehicles were recovered.
- In Texas, a Mexican national, Angel David Salas-Herrera, was arrested trying to export stolen cars out of the U.S.
- Also in Texas, migrants were arrested for operating a VIN-number-switching scheme in which they replaced VIN tags on stolen cars with tags recovered from a salvage yard. They then sold the cars as “rebuilt” or recovered vehicles.
- In Arizona, foreign nationals running a car theft ring were arrested, resulting in the recovery of 29 vehicles and the seizure of $2.5 million in cash.
