The Quote Below—More Misinformation from the Media
“The strength of our nation is in the diversity of its people. The greatness of this nation will further be elevated by fixing the immigration system that has been broken for too long. President Donald Trump’s latest executive order threatening to withhold funds from sanctuary cities and states while escalating the rhetoric on deportations without due process is simply un-American.
“It is time for this nation to be reminded of the contributions of immigrants from the early European settlers to the newest waves of immigrants making powerful contributions to this country. Congress needs to accept that immigrants today build our cities, spend money in our economies and pay taxes into our public coffers — but don’t even receive all the benefits for doing so, making them givers rather than takers or criminals.
“It’s undeniable immigrants, regardless of their immigration status, are part of our economy and social fabric. Often, they’re the anchors of our family values. . . .
“The contributions of immigrants are embedded in the fabric of our state’s past, our present and our future. We believe this to be true for the country as whole. . . .
“We know that lasting solutions will not come from scapegoating immigrants. These individuals care for our young and elderly, help put food on the table, build and clean our homes. They are also students, teachers, firefighters, police officers, military veterans, business owners and entrepreneurs.
In short, they are our neighbors and Americans who don’t have the right piece of paper but are legally entitled to due process and an opportunity to strengthen the economy and the fabric of our nation. . . .” — Stop the Political Theater and fix the Broken Immigration System, Karina Ayala-Bermejo and Raul Raymundo, Chicago Tribune, 5/22/25 [Link]
Fact Check of Above Quote: Diversity, at least the kind we’re getting from mass immigration, is not our country’s strength. Research shows that increasing diversity weakens the social ties that bind our society. This loss of cohesion, however, is the strength of various sinister interests. For left-wing radicals it offers divisions to exploit for political power. For economic interests, a divided workforce makes it harder for workers to unite and advance their welfare through unionization and other means.
The authors of this article rhapsodize about immigrants as if they were superhuman beings, far above mere native-born mortals. Certainly, there are many fine immigrants who contribute to our country. But high-flown sentiments about immigrants should not take the place of rational discussion about immigration policy, specifically how much immigration and what kinds of immigration we should accept.
Immigration enthusiasts don’t want this kind of discussion to happen because in their dream world there can never be too much immigration, and it really doesn’t matter whether it is legal or illegal. To these authors, being illegal is nothing more than lacking “the right piece of paper.” Furthermore, these illegal interlopers deserve a version of unending “due process” which has the practical consequence of preventing any significant number of deportations. Those who oppose this view, the authors suggest, are “simply un-American.”
To the contrary, the real un-Americans are people who simply don’t care about the cohesion of our society, the security of our borders, and our rule of law.
