Noted here on March 17, the CBP Home app (repurposed from the CBP One app of the previous administration) allows illegal aliens in this country to announce their self-deportation. The Trump administration has begun distributing flyers warning illegals to use that app and go — or else face fines of $998 per day. In addition, the administration plans to apply the fiines retroactively to illegals for up to five years, resulting in fines of more than $1 million. And even more, any property belonging to the intransigent illegal will be subject to confiscation.
Administration officials point out that self-deportation is safe, it allows non-criminal illegal immigrants to keep money earned in the US, and it protects their eligibility to return legally in the future. Some illegals without resources may even be eligible for subsidized flights to their home countries.
Alternatively, those who do not self-deport, in addition to facing fines, will be subject to removal at a time selected only by the government, may be subject to jail time, and would be prohibited from reentering the US forever.
