Illegal Border Traffic at Record Low Levels

In less than a month since retaking office, President Trump has reduced illegal border traffic down to levels not seen since the 1960s. So far in February, only about 359 illegal migrants per day have been apprehended across the entire southern border — a drop of more than 90% from February 2024. That alone would put the average traffic at a level unheard of in the past 25 years. If the trend continues, we could be looking at a border quieter than it’s been in generations. Assuming the trend continues through the end of February, border crossings for the month would top out at roughly 10,000. That is fewer than even the roughly 11,000 recorded during the first month of Trump’s first administration.

Authorities in Texas are finally able to breathe a sigh of relief. Terrell County, Texas, Sheriff Thaddeus Cleveland told the NY Post this is typically a busy time of year, due to cooler weather. This year, however, not so. “It’s a relief,” Cleveland told The Post.

The San Diego, California, sector is currently the border’s most active; 934 illegals have crossed over so far this month.

Various factors are contributing to the downturn, including much enhanced security north of the border. In addition, with Trump’s prodding, Mexico has deployed 10,000 troops on the southern side, and ICE has arrested 11,000 illegals in coordinated raids over the past 18 days.
