Yesterday, we reported on data released by ICE showing that of the two categories of illegals vis-a-vis detention — the detained vs the non-detained — the non-detained docket includes more than seven million. What about the detainees? The ICE data show that that category includes 37,395 illegals.
So, given that more than half a million violent criminals have had to be set loose, ICE must be tapped out, bedwise? Not exactly. The agency has Congressional funding enough to pay for 41,500 detention beds. That means that more than 4,100 beds are available but are sitting unused.
As we saw yesterday, among those seven-plus million non-detainees, there are a total of 647,572 suspected violent criminals, who are either awaiting trial or are already convicted. A reasonable person might conclude that ICE would make use of those extra beds for a few of our more dangerous illegal visitors? Don’t be ridiculous. This is Bidenworld, where the New American Way is to let violent foreigners roam free, the better to prey on innocent citizens.
Curiously, in April, Acting ICE Director Patrick Lechleitner asked Congress for money to fund 50,000 detention beds. Why? They’re not using the ones they have.
