Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced that it deported 36 Somali nationals from the U.S. Most had serious criminal records. Prior to 2017 Somalis could not be deported because the Somali government refused to accept them. This policy changed due to pressure from the Trump Administration. Nine other countries, due to the administration’s efforts, have switched to accepting deportees from the U.S.
