Humanitarian Parolees to Pay $1000 Fee

The Biden administration handed out so-called “humanitarian paroles” like candy, doling out millions of them to illegal aliens with little or no vetting. This traditionally little-used program was turned into, in the words of DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin, “a de facto amnesty program” — one that had the advantage of requiring no Congressional approval. In an announcement yesterday, Ms. McLaughlin went on to say that the abuse of the program allowed “millions of unvetted illegal aliens into the U.S., no questions asked, to the detriment of all Americans.”

To ensure that parolees “have skin in the game and do not exploit the system,” Ms. McLaughlin announced that a new $1000 fee will be required from the recipient upon acceptance into the program. The fee will be collected by Customs and Border Protection, Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Citizenship and Immigration Services.

This ia better, of course, but how about abolishing the concept of “humanitarian parole” altogether?
