David North of CIS.org has some advice this week for Republican state legislators tired of having their complaints about illegal migrants ignored by Washington. He writes:
Given the Biden administration’s obvious unwillingness to control illegal immigration, why not take steps to discourage illegal aliens from staying in your state? Why not make them uncomfortable enough so they either leave it for the homeland, or at least for a state where the other party will bear their costs?
He lists six areas in which states–presumably those controlled by Republicans–can work to cause the discomfort he’s advising:
1. Driver’s Licenses
2. State Income Tax Refunds.
3. In-State Tuition Rates for Illegal Aliens.
4. Wire Transfer Fees.
5. SNAP Benefits for Illegal Aliens.
6. Professional Licenses.
Each of these areas is within the province of the states, not the federal government. As North points out, they provide opportunities for a state legislature to discourage settlement by illegals who have been admitted by an open-borders-minded central government.
Note to state lawmakers: Complaining you must do, but taking action you CAN do as well.
