Overall housing costs for a selected group of 20 US cities climbed 7.4 percent from March 2023 to March 2024. Over the past three years, mortgage payments around the country doubled from $1,400 in January 2021 to $2,800 in April 2024. As a consequence of such rises, homelessness in America has skyrocketed. Since 2015, the number of homeless in the US has increased 35 percent. In just 2023 alone, the number increased by 12 percent, reaching a total of 653,104 nationwide.
Why the surge? Authorities like to blame a lack of foresight among home builders: “We under-built after the great financial crisis, we under-built homes in the US for more than a decade,” Neel Kashkar, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, told the Telegraph on May 29. But then Kashkar added: “And then we have a big surge in immigration in the last few years. They obviously need a place to live.”
Immigration as the reason for the high cost of housing and rise of homelessness is the explanation most dreaded by the left, because open borders is one of the primary planks in their utopian platform. Blaming the addition of 10 million foreigners — legal and otherwise — to our population over the years of the Biden regime is “like . . . a taboo,” says Mark Krikorian, director of the Center for Immigration Studies, adding:
I’ve seen [the left] going through ridiculous contortions to avoid blaming Biden for the border crisis he caused. . . . They’re going through contortions to avoid actually discussing the cause of it, because that would mean they agree with Republicans. . . .It’s sort of a superstition not to invoke the term “immigration. They’re afraid if they say immigration in an article . . . something bad will happen to them, or the great unwashed deplorables will do some terrible xenophobic thing.
Tabu or not, the truth is out there, and no country can absorb the people Joe Biden has added to it without housing prices spiking and having hundreds of thousands thrown out onto the street. Take a look at virtually any American city, large or small. We are being priced out of shelter in our own country.
