House Passes SAVE Act, Senate Vows to Defeat

The House of Representatives passed the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act yesterday, with the support of all Republicans and five Democrats. The Democrats voting For were Henry Cuellar (D-Tx), Vicente Gonzalez (D-TX), Jared Golden (D-ME), Don Davis (D-NC), and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (D-WA). The bill now goes to the Dem-led Senate.

The SAVE Act would require state election officials to ask would-be voters about their citizenship before providing them with ballots. It also would require an individual to provide proof of citizenship before he can register to vote in federal elections. States are also provided with access to a federal database from which they can remove noncitizens on the voting rolls. In addition, the bill would direct the Department of Homeland Security to determine whether to begin removal proceedings of noncitizens who have been identified as having registered to vote in federal elections.

The Democrats in the Senate are gearing up to fight the bill tooth and nail, of course, claiming both that it is unnecessary and would prevent legitimate voters from voting. In other words, it would get in the way of their plan to pack the electorate full of their kind of people, ie, the easily purchased.

And, FWIW, Old Joe has said he would veto the bill anyway.
