By a margin of 236 to 187, the House passed a bill granting amnesty to illegal aliens and permanent residence status to individuals now covered by Temporary Protected Status. Those covered, a total of 2.1 million, would have a pathway to become citizens. All House Democrats voted and seven Republicans voted for this legislation.
An opponent of the bill, Rep. Mike Rogers (R-AL), stated that “[It] does nothing to address our [border] crisis. Instead, it tells an entire generation of illegal immigrants that breaking our laws is rewarded.”
