Hitler Hysteria, Again

The Quote Below—More Misinformation from the Media

“Donald Trump’s words and actions are drawing unsettling comparisons to the playbooks of Hitler and Mussolini. With warnings now coming from former allies, generals, and presidents alike, the question looms: Is America sleepwalking into authoritarianism under Trump 2.0?

“The question may sound far-fetched, even alarmist, but it’s no longer just partisan critics raising the alarm. With random, ruthless moves and thoughtless “beautiful” bills turning into law in the Trump 2.0 era, the warnings of something far worse are staring the United States —and the world — in the face.

“From former Vice President Al Gore to Trump’s own ex–chief of staff John Kelly, the warnings are clear: Trump’s politics, language, and actions echo some of the darkest chapters of the 20th century. The words ‘Hitler’ and, Nazi Germany’ are no longer confined to angry protest placards — they now appear in serious think pieces . . . .

“From insane, self-inflicted tariffs to illogical mass deportations of immigrants to even targeting the iconic Harvard Trump’s high-profile blunders are piling up. . . .

“Since sending the National Guard to Los Angeles and Washington during immigration protests in June this year, President Trump has on several occasions said that, if needed, he would send troops to some of the nation’s most Democratic cities. . . .

“Each time Trump bypasses laws established by Congress, mocks judicial oversight, or threatens political opponents with state machinery, the threshold for what is acceptable in American democracy shifts a bit too far. What adds to the concern is not only what Trump does today but also what the future holds. . . .

“Trump has called immigrants ’animals’ and ‘infestations’, just the way Hitler called Jews ‘rats’ or ‘vermin’ and Rwandan leaders called Tutsis ‘cockroaches’ before the genocide.” — Is America Sleepwalking Into Fascism Under ‘Hitler’ Trump?, Suchi Shura, TimesNow, 9/1/25 [Link}

Fact Check of Above Quote: Likening President Trump to Hitler is a form of hysteria increasingly showing up among his critics. They say that he acts like a dictator and uses harsh and demeaning language. Interestingly, they expressed none of these concerns when former President Joe Biden twisted the law to invite a mass invasion by illegal aliens, all the while showing utter contempt for Trump supporters, calling them enemies of democracy and “garbage.”

The article above cites Trump’s “illogical mass deportations” as a proof of his Hitlerian inclinations. But what is illogical or dictatorial about enforcing our immigration laws, ones enacted by our elected representatives enacted? Trump’s critics say he undermines democracy and the rule of law, but actually he upholds that rule by carrying out what the law requires.

The author of this article, Suchi Shura, goes on to condemn Trump for acting like a dictator when he deployed National Guard troops in Los Angeles. But the purpose of that deployment was to stop mobs from interfering with ICE agents who were carrying out their legally-sanctioned duties. Local police were not protecting them. Again, Trump was trying to uphold the law. Some legal authorities disagree with what he did, but his action does have precedent, as in 1957 when President Eisenhower federalized Guard troops to enforce school integration in Little Rock, Arkansas.

The fact that some judges have ruled against Trump does not prove he is defying the judicial branch. Those rulings may be overturned on subsequent appeals, as some have been already. That’s the way our system is supposed to work.

Finally, Trump did not refer to “immigrants” as “animals” and the like. His targets were the subset of illegal aliens who are members of vicious criminal gangs, such as MS-13. The derogatory names were entirely appropriate. The real Hitler once stated that people will believe “Big Lies” if you repeat them enough. Trump haters are following that principle.
