Tom Harmon, the newly-appointed “border Czar” of the in-coming Trump Administration, affirms that he will not allow “sanctuary” jurisdictions to thwart federal immigration law enforcement. His statement comes in response to statements by mayors and governors of sanctuary cities and states that they will continue to protect illegal aliens from deportation.
The most audacious promise of defiance came from Mike Johnson, the far-left mayor of Denver. He indicated that he would deploy city police to prevent immigration law enforcement, while encouraging citizens to aid the resistance. Other sanctuaries don’t go this far toward sedition, but they are affirming their policies to keep illegals safe from enforcement.
The cities include Boston, Los Angeles, and San Diego. The governors of the following states have also pledged to what they can to thwart ICE: Illinois, Colorado, Massachusetts, California, and Washington State.
Harmon says he will not be intimidated by sanctuaries and that he will make sure that ICE will enter them and carry out its duties. In fact, it may double down on efforts there. His message to sanctuary jurisdictions is the following:
“Here’s what’s going to happen – [If] you release [a criminal alien] . . . , I’m going to send an entire team to go look for the guy in your community. And what’s going to happen? We’ll find that guy. And when we find that guy, there’s probably going to be others that are not a priority.”
Harmon adds that when sanctuaries refuse to turn over criminal aliens to ICE they are putting their citizens at risk.
