Haitians Demand Admittance

Yesterday, July 19, hundreds of migrants, most Haitian, attempted to push through the border barrier in Del Rio, Texas, demanding admittance. Only with the aid of state troopers from Texas, Florida, and Nebraska was the Border Patrol able to block the attempted incursion. Video of the incident is available at Fox News and also at Breitbart News.

Fox News reporter Bill Melugin said that in six trips to the border, the group of approximately 300 that he saw was the largest single group he had seen. “What they’ve done is, they’ve come right up to the border wall and they’re basically demanding to be let into the United States.”

Melugin said that about 160 of the migrants, mostly apparent family units, were actually admitted and placed on buses on the American side, though the camps in Del Rio are all filled to capacity.

The migrants had begun arriving at the gate around 3:00 am and kept coming throughout the day. Melugin explained that, to get to this point from Haiti, the migrants first fly into the Mexican city of Monterrey, 300 miles to the south. From there, they take buses to Ciudad Acuna, directly across the border from Del Rio. Finally, they enlist smugglers to take them across the Rio Grande to U.S. territory.
