The president of Guatemala, Alejandro Giammattei, disagrees with the claim of U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris’ that the current flood of Central American migrants across the U.S. border was set in motion by violence, poverty, and climate change. Giammattei maintains that the leading immediate causes were the open border policies of the Biden Administration.
The Guatemalan president said “[Biden’s message is:] We’re going to reunite families, we’re going to reunite children. The very next day, the coyotes were here organizing groups of children to take them to the United States. We asked the United States government to send more of a clear message to prevent more people from leaving.”
