French police are having difficulty enforcing the nationwide anti-coronavirus quarantine in “no-go” migrant areas which have long defied government authority. An outstanding example is the Seine-Saint-Denis area near Paris. There police fear that if they try to enforce the quarantine, they will face a violent backlash which could increase the threat to public health. One officer stated that policing the area was “impossible.”
A resident quoted by the newspaper Le Temps said that “[The migrants] do not understand anything [about the virus]. Some even say that this virus is a fable of whites to force them to desert the street.”
