The Quote Below—More Misinformation from the Media
“Denver’s new plan to care for migrants and refugees has real merit and is worth the risks. The Denver Asylum Seeker Program launched on Wednesday is perhaps the most creative and ambitious plan developed by Mayor Mike Johnston, to date, and that’s saying something.
“We are proud that our city — once defiantly proclaiming ‘Immigrants Welcome’ during the Trump administration — has stepped up to care for the approximately 40,000 people who were bussed here from the southern border.
“But that care has cost $68 million since December of 2022. . . . We cannot prevent refugees from coming to America. . . .
“Already between 6 million and 7 million people have fled Venezuela. Many have ended up in other South and Central American countries and thousands have crossed the border in Mexico seeking asylum in the United States.
“Biden should be welcoming refugees at the border with an orderly intake process and dispersal throughout the country to fully funded resettlement programs equipped to handle applications for work permits and asylum cases. This process also would allow the U.S. to screen for dangerous criminals and terrorists who need to be deported immediately. . . .
“We can hold our heads high that we continue to care for refugees. Now it’s time to commend Johnston for doing what Biden should have done long ago — launch a nationwide resettlement program with a blueprint for obtaining job permits.
“We know there are places in America with ethical leaders who will step up and meet Johnston’s call, using their own city’s resources (coupled with some state and federal dollars) to get these refugees on their feet while they wait years for their asylum cases to be processed.
“Between the inept response from Biden and the unethical response from Abbott, we’ll fully endorse Johnston’s approach. We implore other cities to support refugees while providing the expensive legal aid needed to get work permits.” – Void Any Biden Leadership on the Refugee Crisis, Denver Stands Up for a Real Plan, Editorial, The Denver Post 7/15/24 [Link]
Fact Check of Above Quote: This editorial congratulates Denver’s mayor for his generosity toward illegal aliens, with taxpayers’ money. The city’s governing and economic elites, cheered by their handmaiden media, can feel good about themselves, at no personal cost whatsoever. That can’t be said for average citizens, particularly those on the lower end of the economic scale. They will pick up the tab for these humanitarians. They will do so with higher taxes, depressed wages, competition for services, and diminished access to housing.
With respect to the latter, consider homelessness. The number of homeless people in the Denver area has risen sharply in recent years, a time-frame coinciding with the arrival of the foreign migrants .Estimates of the homeless last year ranged as high as 28,000 The great majority did not choose to be homeless, and most are people from Colorado. All across the country, the influx of millions of migrants has increased the demand for housing and jacked up rents beyond the ability of many to pay. It’s a good deal for landlords and real estate investors, but not for most people. As usual, immigration benefits the well-off at the expense of the not-so-well-off.
The editorial refers to the migrants as “asylum seekers” and “refugees.” Actually, the people in those categories, legally speaking, are only those with a “well-founded” personal fear of persecution. That doesn’t apply to the vast majority of migrants who come mainly to derive the economic benefits of living in America. To promote illegal migration, illegal alien advocates encourage migrants to make bogus refugee and asylum claims. When they do so, thanks to the Biden Administration’s twisted interpretation of immigration law, they get to stay in the U.S. Regardless of how their asylum hearings turn out, most probably never will go home.
This editorial claims that we can’t prevent so-called “refugees” from coming to America. Actually, Former President Trump was starting to do a pretty good job of that. His “Remain in Mexico” policy, discouraged bogus asylum claims, and our border became more secure. Then, then Joe Biden rescinded Trump’s reforms which invited the subsequent deluge of migrants.
The partiality of our elites and their media toward mass immigration recalls the saying during the American Civil War that it was a “rich man’s war and a poor man’s fight.” Mass immigration today is a rich American’s policy and a poor American’s problem.
