Dems Push ‘Lame Duck’ Amnesty

Democrats in the House and Senate are seeking to pass an amnesty for illegal aliens in the DACA category during the “lame duck” period before the new Congress convenes. The House then will be under Republican control, which will make passage of an amnesty bill there very unlikely.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) stated “we want to get [it] done,” and Senate Judiciary Chair Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) agreed, saying that “the time to act is now.”

Washington observers, however, maintain that passing this legislation will be difficult because many Republicans will not consider it until the border is under control. Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) observed that “there’s no way you’re going to get anybody on our side to do an immigration bill with a broken border.”
