You might think that at a time when our economy has been wrecked by a new disease out of China, throwing scores of millions out of work, that Democrats and other traditionally pro-immigrant elements would reconsider–at least temporarily–their obsession with welcoming the rest of the world to our shores. After all, there are no jobs and we’re still fighting desperately to put down that infectious disease, so we need a break from the invasion. Right?
Wrong. If anything, those immigrant-happy elements have doubled down on their demands for more and more illegals and for more and more freebies to bestow upon them.
- Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) and Representative Pramila Jayapal (D-WA and native of India) last month announced legislation they cleverly call the “Federal Immigrant Release for Safety and Security Together (FIRST)” Act. That bill, if passed and signed, would release foreign detainees from ICE detention centers, as long as they’re not exactly “significant” public safety risks. The argument: detention centers are breeding grounds for the Wuhan virus, so now that these detainees have had time to be sufficiently exposed, let’s turn them loose on the citizenry. If their mugging, raping, and murdering habits don’t get those long-suffering citizen saps, maybe the virus will.
- Also in Congress, as we reported a couple of days ago, the $3 trillion stimulus bill passed by the House would abolish the Social Security number (SSN) requirement for stimulus recipients, substituting an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) instead. ITINs theoretically exist to enable illegal workers to pay income taxes, but in practice merely provide them a means of grabbing onto any of the various child credits–each can claim up to 20 dependents–in the form of tax refunds. No one has any idea how many ITINs are out there. As of 2012, the IRS had issued more than 21 million. This provision alone would hugely increase the total payout–and all to residents who are, by definition, criminal.
- Lest the cheap labor lobby feel left out, the Democrat House bill would also give a convenient pass to employers knowingly hiring illegals, explicitly saying: “[T]he hiring, employment, or continued employment of an alien described in subsection 12 (d) is not a violation of . . . the Immigration and Nationality Act.” Nice work if you can get it.
The insanity is not confined to the U.S. Congress, however. As we noted in “Blue States and Dems Demand Bailouts for Illegals,” state governments like California and sanctuary cities like Seattle are equally crazy in their demands for bailouts specifically for persons illegally here.
And lastly there’s “presumptive Democratic nominee” Joe Biden, holed up in his basement. In addition to promising to undo everything President Trump has done or attempted to do, “Sleepy Joe” says he’s all in on providing healthcare to illegals and for opening the floodgates to everyone who’s not yet succeeded in sneaking in already. The more future Democrat voters, the better.
