In June, the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution investigated the actions of the Google corporation in regard to the 2016 presidential election. One of the witnesses, Dr. Robert Epstein, a research psychologist, testified to the following:
In 2016, biased search results generated by Google’s search algorithm likely
impacted undecided voters in a way that gave at least 2.6 million votes to Hillary
Clinton (whom I supported). . . . [I]n 2020 if these companies [Google and others]
all support the same candidate – and that’s likely, needless to say – they will be able to
shift upwards of 15 million votes to that candidate with no one knowing and without
leaving a paper trail (emphasis added.)
This is obviously very important and very dangerous stuff, so, in July, a group of Senators fired off a letter to Sundar Pichai, Google CEO, demanding action.
Action about Google’s meddling in our presidential elections?
Don’t be ridiculous. These were Democrats, including presidential contenders Kamala Harris, Elizabeth Warren, and Bernie Sanders. The action they were insisting on had to do with the hiring, full-time and permanently, of Google’s full complement of 120,000 outsourcing workers and temporary hires, the vast majority of whom are from India and China. These hires would effectively shut out an equal number of American workers, of whom there are plenty. Already, outsourcing to Indian workers results in the transfer of at least $78 billion of work from the United States to India each year.
Corporations like Google prefer Indian and Chinese workers, because those workers will work more cheaply than Americans. In addition, the companies have already placed large numbers of ethnic Indian and Chinese into management jobs, such as, Google’s Sundar Pichai, Microsoft’s CEO Satya Nadella, Adobe’s CEO Shantanu Narayen, and Nokia CEO Rajeev Suri. It is an open secret in the industry that Indian and Chinese managers often prefer hiring those of their own ethnicity. An online search easily reveals any number of anecdotal reports of such biased hiring. (The U.S. Department of Labor filed suit in 2017 against Oracle for “hiring discrimination against non-Asian applicants.” That suit is still in litigation.)
Google has long been one of the high tech mega-corporations campaigning yearly for permission to hire more and more H-1B workers. Currently, they, along with most of the rest of their industry, are lobbying hard for passage of the S.386 bill that would abolish the country caps on such hires, thus permitting them to gorge themselves on the Indian and Chinese workers they prefer, for the reasons stated above.
Democrat leaders such as Harris, Warren, and Sanders have been forthright in their pro-immigrant, anti-American positions. (Harris is even a co-sponsor of S.386.) This is not surprising, as high tech is big business and politically is overwhelmingly liberal and Democrat.
The fat cats call the tune and the politicians dance.
