Democrat Reject Trump Compromise

Democrats rejected President Trump’s proposed compromise to end the partial shutdown of the government. The president proposed $5.8 billion for a border wall–in exchange for extended legal residence for illegal aliens in the DACA category and for foreigners allowed to stay in the U.S. temporarily following disasters in their countries. Many in the latter category should have gone home already because the disasters that prompted them to leave are long over.

The Democrats said Trump’s proposal didn’t go far enough. We want want the people covered to have permanent residence and a path to citizenship. Many of the president’s supporters felt that the compromise went too far by offering extended residence for no more concessions than wall funding.
