Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin said on Sunday the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants living in the United States must have “a pathway to citizenship” under any immigration reform bill passed by Congress.
House Majority Leader Eric Cantor of Virginia and some other Republicans have supported such a move for the children of illegal immigrants, but not the adults. Many conservatives reject such an approach as amnesty and are vehemently opposed.
But Durbin, an Illinois Democrat, said on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” said any legislative deal must include all illegal immigrants, regardless of age.
