Death Takes a Holiday–in Texas

Well, not exactly–in fact, quite the contrary–but funerals are having to take one.

The director of Memorial Funeral Home in Eagle Pass is saying, “No mas!” Today, he buried the bodies of no fewer than 10 unidentified migrants, with more stacked up in-house, in vehicles, and in the custody of local officials. With the only other funeral home in the area similarly lacking capacity, the Memorial director has informed the Border Patrol that his facility “can no longer accept the remains of migrants” found locally. Officials are now looking into other options, including refrigerated trucks and out-of-town facilities.

“Today’s burial of ten migrants did not do much to change the overall situation,” said one official.

That overall situation is the extraordinary number of deaths occurring among this summer’s influx of migrants. Breitbart reported last week that a record-setting 670 migrant deaths have been recorded in the first nine months of this fiscal year. Yesterday, three more bodies, also unidentified, were found on the American side of the Rio Grande. During peak periods, one or more bodies are found every day, either in the river or on ranches north of it.

Not for nothing did the International Organization for Migration last month declare our southern border “the deadliest land crossing in the world.”

One of the unintended consequences of inviting the world to sneak into your country.
