Cuban Migrants Attempt to Forciby Enter U.S.

On Tuesday, December 29, 400 Cuban migrants forced their way past Mexican guards on the Paso del Norte Bridge which separates Ciudad Juarez from downtown El Paso, Texas. The migrants leaped turnstiles and other barriers in an attempt to illegally enter the United States.

U.S. Border Patrol agents in riot gear met the migrants in the middle of the bridge, using concrete blocks topped with concertina wire as barricades to prevent the Cubans’ entry.

Some of the migrants said they were protesting the Migrant Protection Protocols that had required them to remain in Mexico while their requests for asylum were being adjudicated.

“We’re fed up waiting,” one said.

Many of the Cubans were said to shout “Biden! Biden!” as they attempted unsuccessfully to force their way into the U.S.
