Crimes by Illegals Matter

The Quote Below—More Misinformation from the Media

“President Donald Trump was returned to the White House this year largely on the strength of one issue: immigration. Trump’s narrative of a nation being overrun by violent migrant criminals was never real . . . . It’s safe to say a great many Americans who don’t necessarily support Trump on other issues were hoping and expecting him to finally start enforcing America’s immigration laws.

“What they’ve gotten instead is a counterproductive and often lawless approach to immigration enforcement, one that weaponizes the issue for the sake of partisan politics, with a foundation of abject cruelty that every American should be ashamed of. . . . Why the urgency to round up these particular immigrants? Simple: Trump has vowed ‘the single largest Mass Deportation Program in History,’ but there aren’t that many immigrants here who commit violent crimes; statistically, they are less likely to than are native-born Americans. . . .

“This administration’s approach to immigration is lots of things — arbitrary, capricious, cruel — but no one should mistake it for just ‘enforcing the law.’ “ — Trump Not Just ‘Enforcing’ Immigration Law — He’s Weaponizing It, St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Editorial Board, 6/24/25 [Link]

Fact Check of Above Quote: To illegal alien advocates, such as this editorial board, any enforcement of our immigration laws is “arbitrary, capricious, [and] cruel.” It doesn’t concern them that the alternative to enforcement is allowing all foreign law-breakers to remain here, while encouraging millions and millions more abroad to come and join them. The resulting loss of our national sovereignty would bring chaos and no small measure of cruelty. The alien advocates don’t care. They’re just interested in the short-term advantages to be gained from cheap labor and cheap votes following an amnesty.

This editorial repeats the claim that illegal aliens really don’t pose a problem because, allegedly, they commit fewer violent crimes than Americans. This claim is difficult to prove because most U.S. states and localities don’t record crime by illegal aliens. One that does is Texas, and illegal alien advocates have seized on its data to make their assertion about illegals being less prone to violent crime. That interpretation, however, is inaccurate. The Texas data actually reveal that illegals in Texas commit homicide and sexual assaults at a higher rate than Texans.

Even if illegals weren’t more violence-prone, that is no reason to relax enforcement toward those who are violent. Everyone of them we deport means some Americans will not become victims of their violence. Furthermore, nearly all illegal aliens burden society with nonviolent crimes. These include taking jobs and public services belonging to Americans. They also commit tax fraud and identity theft. Overall, they receive more in benefits than they pay in taxes.

Illegal immigration is not a victimless crime. The more we crack down on this crime, the less of it we will have.
