The Center for Immigration Studies has released a report finding, after studying the example case of Massachusetts, that the long-time costs of illegal immigration outweigh the short-term, such as the cost of shelters. In particular, the administration’s policy of paroling millions of illegal aliens will prove a “fiscal time bomb,” once those aliens qualify for welfare benefits.
The reason is this: a 1996 welfare reform law allows parolees to access welfare benefits after being here for five years. That means that more than one million aliens paroled into the U.S. since 2021 will begin to become eligible for welfare benefits in 2026. The cost to American taxpayers at that point will reach about $3 billion per year for every million parolees.
The study also found that about 60 percent of illegal-alien households already use at least one welfare program, costing on average $5,692 in federal welfare benefits yearly. Nationally, the total current cost is $42 billion.
Though some migrants pay taxes, the fact is most are low-skilled, and the taxes they pay are never enough to mitigate their costs of welfare, healthcare, and education. In sum, in Bidenworld, big business gets the low-paid workers, the Left gets the future voters, and YOU get the bill.
