Census Bureau: Immigration Will Have Massive Impact

The Census Bureau forecasts that if current immigration policies remain in place, immigrants within the next eight years will account for almost 15 percent of the population, a total of 51 million people. This would be the highest percentage and number ever in our history. In 1990, immigrants were just 7.9 percent of the population, totaling 20 million. If current trends continue, our present population of 320 million will grow 417 million by 2060. Immigrants and their descendants will account for 75 percent of that growth.
