Huntington Beach Sues State

The city of Huntington Beach, California, has voted to file a lawsuit against California's sanctuary law. Under that law, state and local police departments are prohibited from notifying federal authorities when illegal aliens held in custody are being released. Without this knowledge, those authorities can't move to deport them. Huntington Beach Mayor Mike Posey described the law as "constitutional overreach."

Trump Calls for Military to Secure Border

President Trump called on the military to secure the border. He stated, "Until we can have a wall and proper security, we're going to be guarding our border with the military. That's a big step, we certainly haven't done that before, or certainly not very much before." This move may have come in part because of the "caravan" of migrants now moving through Mexico toward the U.S. border.

Migrants Move Toward U.S. Border

A caravan of 1,300 migrants from Central America is moving through Mexico to the U.S. border.  The caravan calls itself Migrantes en la Lucha (Migrants in the Struggle), and its members plan to petition for asylum when they reach the U.S.  After doing so, under current policy, they are free from custody. Those making bogus claims (probably the majority) can simply disappear and add their number to the 11 million illegal aliens already residing here. If the present caravan can achieve its goal, a succession of these caravans may follow. The Trump Administration has called on Congress to change the current policy to prevent abuse of asylum applications.

Sheriffs from 40 States Call for Wall

A total of 380 sheriffs from 40 states have called on Congress to enact the border wall proposed by President Trump. A spokesman for the group, Sheriff Thomas Hodgson of Bristol County Massachusetts, stated than lack of action from Congress to stop illegal immigration makes it harder for local law enforcement officers to protect their communities.  Hodgson was particularly critical of sanctuary cities. He affirmed, "Enough is enough. And the sheriffs are speaking up joining together with our constituents in our communities and saying, 'You need to now act, Congress.' ''

CA Cities Seek to Exit State Sanctuary Law

A growing number of towns and cities in California see seeking to opt out of the state sanctuary law that limits cooperation between local police agencies and federal immigration agencies. The city of Los Alamitos has done so, stating that the new state law "may be in direct conflict with federal laws and the Constitution." State Assemblyman Travis Allen affirmed that "Tiny Los Alamitos has kicked ope the door, and not other cities across California are looking to get on board and stand up against the illegal sanctuary state."

Carlson: ‘Bewildering Fast’ Demographic Change

Fox News commentator Tucker Carlson notes that the U.S. has undergone rapid demographic change due to mass immigration.  He says concern about it is legitimate because [T]his is more change than human beings are designed to digest. This change makes societies volatile-really volatile, just as ours has become volatile." He further observed, "And notice where this change is  not happening? Any place our leaders live. They caused all of us [problems] with their reckless immigration policies, and yet their own neighborhoods are basically unchanged. . . . No demographic change at all in their zip codes. Our leaders are for diversity, just not where they live."

Budget Bill Funds Wall–in Jordan

The 2018 omnibus budget bill proposed by Congress funds only 33 miles of border fencing in Texas, but it provides funding for the Middle Eastern country of Jordan to build fencing along its 287-mile borders with Iraq and Syria. The purpose of that fencing is to keep out terrorists. Neil Munro, a writer for Breitbart, notes that "The Jordan wall is designed to block the movement of jihadis--but the U.S. border wall is being designed by Republicans and Democrats to leave large holes for migrants to move into U.S. jobs and into Democratic-run cities, where they force down wages earned by blue-collar Americans. . . ."

Coulter: Immigration Weakens Rights

Columnist Ann Coulter believes that mass immigration is weakening the rights of Americans by admitting so many people from countries where our fundamental conceptions of rights are not well understood. Cases in point, she maintains, are our First and Second Amendments. Coulter notes that "Our two main immigrant groups, Hispanics, and Asians, overwhelmingly, whether it’s Pew Research Center, Cato, all kinds of surveys done over the years, show that white and black Americans overwhelmingly support both free speech and gun rights, and you have almost the reverse percentages with recent immigrants.”

WashPost ‘Fact Checker’ Not Factual

The Washington Post's "fact checker" recently claimed that President Trump was wrong when he stated that illegal aliens are more prone to crime than natives. The "fact checker" said that "The majority of the research continues to show that immigrants are less likely to commit crimes. . . ." The slight-of-hand employed here is to conflate illegal aliens with legal immigrants in the category "immigrants." While research generally shows that legal immigrants are on average more law-abiding than natives. This should not be surprising because legal entrants are vetted for criminal backgrounds. Illegal aliens. of course, aren't vetted. Much evidence indicates that illegal aliens are more crime-prone than citizens.
