Can Biden Ignore the Law? Supremes to Decide . . . Eventually

Everybody knows that the Biden administration has been picking and choosing which immigration laws it wants to enforce. They said so, in so many words, in a set of guidelines issued last year, affirming that they will seek to deport only those illegal aliens “who pose a threat to national security, public safety or border security.” Otherwise, they will ignore the vast majority of deportable illegals already in the country while admitting countless others.

Following the announcement of those guidelines, the states of Texas and Louisiana sued, to force the federal government to enforce ALL the laws, not just the ones they favor. In June of this year, Federal Judge Drew Tipton in Corpus Christi, Texas, agreed with the litigants and blocked implementation of the guidelines. In response, the administration appealed to the Supreme Court, which today will hear arguments about the case.

A decision is expected in a time frame that reflects the Court’s usual speed and efficiency: ie, seven months from now, in June 2023.
