Border Patrol Nabs 3500 in Three Days in One Sector

The Border Patrol apprehended no fewer than 3500 illegal border crossers in one recent three-day period, all within the Rio Grande Valley Sector.  Rio Grande Valley is one of nine sectors southwest Border Patrol sectors, and is typically the busiest.

On Sunday, agents took into custody a group of 100 near Rio Grande City, Texas.  Later that day, the Border Patrol apprehended 262 near HIdalgo, Texas. By the end of the period June 22-24, more than 3500 migrants, most of them unaccompanied children and “family units” had been apprehended in the Rio Grande Valley Sector alone.

This unprecedented activity is occurring at the same time the government of Mexico is insisting that it has stepped up migrant enforcement at both its southern and northern borders. On Monday, Mexican Secretary of Defense Luis Cresencio Sandoval told reporters, “In the northern part of the country, we have deployed a total of almost 15,000 troops composed of national guard elements and military units.” He added that 2000 National Guardsmen had been deployed to the country’s southern border, though other claims regarding enforcement in the south are much higher, up to 6500 guardsmen.

Regardless of the claims, someone is letting a lot of illegal migrants through a lot of borders.
