Border Control Isn’t ‘Insane’

The Quote Below—More Misinformation from the Media

“Stopping illegal immigration is easy, according to [Texas Gov. Gregg] Abbott: Just close the border and the flow of migrants crossing into the U.S. will quickly slow to a trickle.

“Abbott said he believes the solution is as simple as stringing razor wire and shipping containers along the Rio Grande, and stationing National Guard troops and Texas state police at the border. He boasts that guardsmen and state troopers created 160 miles of barriers (concertina wire, containers, river buoys and fencing). Texas has 1,200 miles of the 2,000-mile-long border.

“He crows that in the past six months, crossings at Shelby Park in Eagle Pass, Texas, have fallen from thousands a day to less than 10 a day. Migrants are choosing to enter the country through other states because of the resistance Texas has put up, Abbott said. . . .

“Most of the governors with Abbott this month pledged to send or continue to send guardsmen from their own states to help Texas ‘defend its borders.’ Arkansas sent 80 troops for a month last July at a cost of $1.2 million. . . . But none of this is that simple, and these governors know it. Biden is constrained by existing law, especially the parts that require the government to consider migrants’ requests for asylum rather than just tossing them back into Mexico. . . .

“Finally, let’s not forget the millions of people living in our country with no clear path to citizenship, many of whom are unfairly viewed as criminals rather than refugees and asylum-seekers in search of a better life.

“Possible solutions require admitting that the nature of migration across the southwestern border has changed over time, from primarily single adult Mexicans in search of work to thousands of families and unaccompanied minors trying to escape persecution, poverty, gangs and violence, according to the Pew Research Center. .

“A recent report from the Migration Policy Institute emphasizes that the real border challenge is “one of control rather than border security, and the principal lever for control is appropriate migration management. ”Managing migration requires thoughtful, good-faith efforts to arrive at solutions instead of borderline insanity.” – Borderline Insane: Political Theater Overwhelms Real Solutions to Immigration Crisis, Sonny Albarado, Arkansas Advocate 2//14/24 [Link]

Fact Check of Above Quote: The writer, Sonny Albarado, thinks it’s “insane” that anyone would want to control our border. What he apparently prefers is “appropriate migration management.” That’s exactly what DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas wants. Don’t stop illegal aliens from entering the country, just admit them in an “orderly” fashion so that the spectacle of a broken border doesn’t look so bad. Most appropriately, the House voted to impeach Mayorkas for his malfeasance. If anything is insane, it’s allowing the erasure of our border and the loss of our nationhood.

Contrary to what this writer says, border control is fairly straightforward and simple. It’s not rocket science. It consists of deploying manpower and erecting barriers and sensors to stop unauthorized foreign nationals from entering the United States. We don’t need new laws to accomplish this task. We simply need to enforce the laws already on the books.

Joe Biden and his administration are not “constrained by law” to keep the border porous. They simply ignore the law by pretending that the great majority of migrants are legitimate asylum seekers. The Trump Administration effectively dealt with asylum fraud with its “remain-in-Mexico” policy which required people claiming asylum to be screened in Mexico before being allowed into the U.S. When Biden entered the White House he axed remain-in-Mexico, feeling no constraint to keep it in place.

Albarado thinks it’s “unfair” to refer to alien lawbreakers as “criminals.” If he doesn’t think they are criminals, he must not think that the laws they break matter—anymore than the county that enacts them matters. Continuing this line of logic, it’s not surprising that he would reward illegal aliens with a “clear path to citizenship” rather than penalize them. That’s fine with him because they “come for a better life.” Citizens, of course, have no right to break laws if they want to improve their lives.

If we want to have a country, we have to have a border and respect for our laws. Ignoring this basic reality is the real definition borderline insanity.
