Bloomberg Is No Moderate

The Quote Below: More Misinformation from the Media

“Mike Bloomberg, the former New York City mayor and late entry to the Democratic presidential race, emphasizes the need for humane immigration enforcement and more foreign workers in his immigration plan released on Monday, which largely mirrors those of other moderate candidates.

“The Democratic field, including Bloomberg, is in agreement on a few immigration principles: The next president should undo President Trump’s policies, set enforcement priorities rather than indiscriminately prosecute every unauthorized border crossing, and make the immigration system work better for foreigners seeking to come to the US legally.

“They would all push Congress to create a path to citizenship for the estimated 11 million unauthorized immigrants currently living in the US. . . .

“They would also reverse Trump’s most controversial policies, including his efforts to build a wall on the southern border and separate immigrant families, as well as his recently expanded travel ban and the Migrant Protect Protocols, otherwise known as the ‘Remain in Mexico’ policy, under which over 60,000 migrants have been sent back to Mexico to wait for decisions on their asylum applications in the US. . . .

“While Bloomberg recognizes the economic benefits of immigration and has prioritized making immigrants feel safe in their communities regardless of their legal status, he doesn’t want ‘open borders’ (nor do any of the Democrats, despite Trump’s statements to the contrary). Bloomberg has been particularly outspoken about the need to treat immigrants humanely while also securing America’s borders.

“’I think two things are true. One, this country needs more immigrants and we should be out looking for immigrants’” he said in a recent interview with the San Diego News-Tribune. – Mike Bloomberg’s Immigration Plan Is Very Moderate, Nicole Narea, Vox 2/12/20 [Link]

Fact check of Quote Above: Michael Bloomberg is not currently running for president, as he was when this article was written. But the views of this billionaire on immigration are still quite significant. He is an ardent supporter of mass immigration, and he uses his fortune liberally to promote his cause. The former New York mayor is the founder of New American Economy, a well-heeled propaganda outlet for  immigration. Also, it may be too early to count out Bloomberg as a presidential contender. With Democratic front-runner Joe Biden showing signs of senility, the Democratic nomination may still be up for grabs.

To call Bloomberg a moderate on immigration is laughable. We currently have the highest sustained level of legal immigration in our history, more than a million immigrants per year for the past twenty years—and Bloomberg wants to make it even higher! He wants to reward 11 million illegal aliens for their lawbreaking with the prize of American citizenship. Does he understand that we will get more illegal immigration if we reward it?

It is not unreasonable to state that Bloomberg supports open borders—or at least open borders for all practical purposes. He gives lip service to some steps for border control, but his heart is with the notion that migration is a force of nature which can only be regulated, but not stopped. Thus it’s no surprise that he opposes President Trump’s “remain in Mexico” policy which has effectively stemmed the flood of migrants with bogus asylum claims. A quote from Bloomberg sums up his position pretty well: “The solution to our problems is more open borders, not closed borders.”

The notion that other Democratic candidates have opposed open borders is equally ludicrous. The alleged moderate Joe Biden has stated that “In the first 100 days of my administration, no one, no one will be deported at all. From that point on, the only deportations that will take place is convictions of felonies in the United States of America.” Thus under Biden all illegal aliens can remain in the U.S., unless they commit murder or some other heinous crime. It’s hard for a country to be much more open than that.

Let’s not forget that all of the Democrat contenders endorsed tax-paid health care for illegal aliens and that some even called for the abolition of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the agency charged with deporting illegal aliens. It seems they have little concern for American sovereignty, our rule of law, or the significance of our citizenship. With “moderates” like this, who needs extremists?
