Biden to Restart “Remain in Mexico”–As Soon as He Can

After a series of failed attempts to end the Trump-era Migrant Protection Protocols, better known as “Remain in Mexico,” the Biden administration says it may reinstate the program under court order, maybe next week.

The MPP requires asylum seekers awaiting the processing of their claim to wait across the border in Mexico rather than be turned loose in America. President Trump used the policy effectively to drastically reduce the illegal traffic into the U.S. Yet in his haste to undo all of his predecessor’s actions, Joe Biden intially announced the cancelation of the program in the early hours of his administration. He then made an official announcement of the program’s demise in June. The federal courts intervened, however, and in August, ruling that Biden had overlooked federal law provisions in his cancelation directive, ordered MPP be reinstated. Biden tried yet again in October but failed, and finally admitted he would resume Remain in Mexico “as promptly as possible.”

The administration cites the need to secure Mexico’s cooperation for restarting the program, cooperation that had been obtained long ago by Trump.

It’s almost December and while Biden has dallied, more than a million illegal aliens have come into the U.S., most of them to stay. The delay is not accidental of course. As we’ve said before, someone in the White House knows what they’re doing, and packing this country with the foreign-born is just what they want.
