The figures are staggering, the more so given the brief time in question, but the man who famously said “This country can tolerate a heck of a lot more people,” has in almost no time created a situation that puts that dictum to the test. And that “heck of a lot” is certain to be followed by even more in the years to come.
The figures are contained in a new report by Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) researchers Steven Camarota and Karen Zeigler, published today.
Among other findings, the report concluded that “from late January 2021, when Biden took office, through March of this year, 6.6 million immigrants have been added to the United States population.” Today, the foreign-born population is 51.6 million, which is the largest ever recorded. Three in 19 people living in the United States were born in a foreign country.
At the rate that foreigners are being added, the foreign-born population of the US will be more than 82 million by 2040. Almost 25 percent of people living in the United States at that time will have been born in a foreign country.
Finally, the report found that almost 60 percent of the increase in the nation’s foreign-born population under Biden has been due to illegal immigration, but 40 percent is due to the much less widely discussed legal immigration, which is at historical highs.
