Biden Expands Parole beyond All Recognition

Just as the Biden administration has used the heretofore seldom used and little known principle of “humanitarian parole” to enable the resettlement of Afghani evacuees in the United States, it is also using it to permit the admission of tens of thousands of migrants coming illegally across our southern border, according to Breitbart News.

In an article dated February 23, Breitbart quotes Andrew Arthur of the Center for Immigration Studies:

Parole is supposed to be very limited authority. Given exceptional circumstances for people that have emergent medical needs, or are needed to testify in criminal proceedings that sort of thing. The Biden administration, however, has expanded the use of parole beyond any recognizable point. It is now regularly using it to simply release illegal migrant and various other people into the United States.

The administration is using parole apparently every way it can, including admitting children of migrants currently living illegally in the United States and even “advance parole,” which permits DACA recipients to leave the U.S. temporarily and return.

This wholesale use of a principle intended for very limited application has been criticized by U.S. Federal Court Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk, who in a ruling last year ordered Biden to cease using it in this way. He instructed DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to “either detain migrants or reimplement the Migrant Protection Protocols.”

In response, Biden re-instated MPP, but in a very lame and half-hearted way.

At present, the use of parole is a legal point of contention between the Biden administration and pro-migrant lobbies on the one hand and the state of Texas and a coalition of seven conservative states on the other. Meanwhile, by hook and by crook, the record admissions continue.
