‘Catch and Release’ Frees Border Crossers

Under the existing “catch and release” policy on the border, the Department of Homeland Security routinely releases illegal aliens into the interior of the U.S., with the hope they will show up for immigration and asylum hearings. Often they do not. Every day, between May 6 through May 13, 1,100 of these illegal border crossers were released. Former Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, an authority on immigration law, has outlined steps the Trump Administration could take to end catch and release.

Orban Upholds Real Democracy

The Quote Below—More Misinformation from the Media Hungarian Prime Minister Victor Orban has become a virtual pariah within the European Union because of his dismantling of his country’s democratic institutions, cruel treatment of asylum seekers and anti-Semitic provocations. Poll: GOP Voters Want Immigration Cut

A Harvard/Harris Poll found that building a border wall was the top priority of Republican voters, and reducing all immigration, legal and illegal, is second. The latter finding suggests that President Trump may have trouble with his political base if he continues to endorse the current level of legal immigration, now running at more than a million a year.

Family Fraud Common on Border

Many illegal aliens claim that they are the parents of children they bring with them. This helps them remain in the U.S. when they make claims for asylum. Many of these claims of family are bogus, according to investigations done by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)

Acting ICE Director Matthew T. Albence noted that “The results have been staggering thus far. In just a couple of weeks, we’ve interviewed 256 family units and identified 65 fraudulent families. Almost three out of every ten families we’ve interviewed have become fraudulent.” In one instance reported by the Daily Mail, a Guatemalan “rented” an eight-year-old boy for $130 to pose as a family when he illegally crossed the U.S. border.

Diversity Isn’t Strength

The American Thinker recently published an article entitled “Is Diversity Our Strength?” It answered that question with a firm no. With respect to immigration, the article observed:

“Another form of where ‘diversity is strength’ has run amok is in our immigration system.  The impetus today seems to be to bring as many alien cultures into the U.S. as possible.  The media promote this as a way of building national strength.  It is not.  It is planting the seeds of fragmentation and balkanization.  And this foolish approach to immigration is further aggravated by the reluctance of the new arrivals to fully adapt to American norms and customs.  This resistance is encouraged and supported by the liberal hive, who view Americanization as a betrayal to their treasured diversity project.”

Millions Want to Leave Guatemala

A poll by a Guatemalan newspaper found that forty percent of Guatemalans–roughly five and-a-half million people– are planning to leave their country. Eighty-five percent of them said that the United States is where they would like to settle. As long as our border remains unsecured they have a green light to come.

Trump Plan Won’t Cut Legal Immigration

According to a senor administration official, President Trump has endorsed the immigration proposal of his son-in-law Jared Kushner. That plan will not cut the overall level of legal immigration, now at the highest sustained level in our history–more than a million a year for the past twenty years.

In the past President Trump endorsed the need to cut legal immigration, saying this was necessary to protect American workers from wage suppression. The Hill reports a source saying that the impetus behind the plan was for “the GOP to appear virtuous and welcoming to immigrants rather than perpetually angry.”

Trump Proposes to Deport ‘Public Charges’

The Trump Administration is considering a plan to facilitate the deportation of immigrants who use public benefits. Under the law, immigrants who hold green cards can be deported if they become “public charges,” i.e., recipients of public assistance. This law, however, is seldom enforced.

CIS Exposes Bogus Tech Worker Shortage

The Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) has published a paper recounting  the stories of eleven Americans who lost their jobs to foreign workers who came to the U.S. on temporary visa programs. This is at a time when companies claim they can’t find enough Americans to fill job openings.

The author of the paper, Matthew Sussis, notes that “Big corporations and their lobbyists will often claim that there is a ‘shortage’ of American STEM workers that necessitates an ever-growing number of ‘high-skill’ visas, such as H-1B, L-1, and H4 EAD. This is absolutely false.

“In fact, only about a third of natives with college degrees in STEM fields actually hold STEM jobs, meaning there are millions of Americans who could be recruited prior to turning to foreigners. Foreign-educated immigrants are also less-skilled than U.S. degree holders when it comes to tests on numeracy, literacy, and computer operations. Foreign-educated immigrants with a college or advanced degree perform at about the level of Americans with only a high school diploma, according to test scores.”
