Another year, another 1.5 million illegals

The U.S. is expected to add no fewer than 1.5 million new illegal aliens to its population in 2019, according to a March 27 article by John Binder on  This number includes the following groups:

  • 434,000 border crossers that will be apprehended by Homeland Security and then released into the U.S.
  • 500,000 migrants who will successfully sneak across the border without interdiction
  • 630,000 who will enter the U.S. legally but then overstay their visas

The costs to American taxpayers is enormous and difficult to gauge. In 2017, a FAIR report estimated it to be $116 billion annually.  Meanwhile,  corporations and big business reap a windfall from the addition of low-wage workers to the economy. The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine estimates that immigration “shifts about $500 billion in wages away from working and middle class Americans toward new arrivals and economic elites.”
