It appears the Chicoms have stepped up their anti-American game. The FBI announced today that it had arrested two Chinese nationals — a University of Michigan research fellow named Yunqing Jian and her boyfriend, Zunyong Liu — for smuggling into the US a “known agroterrorism agent,” specifically, a fungus called Fusarium graminearumngus.
The fungus attacks grains such as wheat, barley, maize, and rice, and is known to cause billions of dollars’ worth of crops every year. It can also affect humans and livestock, causing vomiting, liver damage, and “reproductive defects.” According to the FBI, Jian’s work was funded by the Chinese government, and she is a loyal member of the Chinese Community Party.
U.S. Attorney Jerome Gorgon said in a statement:
These two aliens have been charged with smuggling a fungus that has been described as a “potential agroterrorism weapon” into in the heartland of America, where they apparently intended to use a University of Michigan laboratory to further their scheme.
FBI Director Kash Patel said:
This case is a sobering reminder that the Chinese Communist Party continues to deploy operatives and researchers to infiltrate our institutions and target our food supply, an act that could cripple our economy and endanger American lives. Smuggling a known agroterrorism agent into the U.S. is not just a violation of law, it’s a direct threat to national security.
The University of Michigan website still lists Lian in its student directory:
Yunqing Jian, Research Fellow, Shan Lab, Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology
As for Liu, he is said to work for a Chinese university where he conducts research on the same pathogen. Federal prosecutors say, when questioned, he denied involvement at first but eventually confessed to smuggling in the banned fungus though the Detroit Metropolitan Airport. He maintains that he was intending to continue research on the pathogen at the laboratory at the University of Michigan.
